Happy Friday! Today’s post is one of reflection. Very recently, I went to the funeral of a family member.  For most of us, funerals always remind us of our mortality.

If this is the case, why do we go through life purchasing unnecessary items for those we love when at the end our lives, they will only remember us for the memories we have? Here are the 3 things that death teaches us about material things:

1. Our time on this earth is limited

This is not a surprise to anyone; however, most of us live our lives as though it’s infinite. We have a finite time
here so we really need to make the most of it. We need to live a life that is meaningful to us and not one that
society dictates to us.

2. We don’t leave this earth with our possessions

Everyone leaves this life with one outfit and whatever else that their families’ decides should be on their body.
Our houses, cars, and everything else that we spent our lives accumulating stays behind.

3. The memories that people have is what lives on after we die

As I listened to the eulogies that were given for this individual,  every single one spoke about good moments
shared and the sacrifices that this person made for his siblings and family. Our loved ones live on through
memories.  Yes, there may be a special item that someone gave you that you will hold on to, but the memories
that we have are what gets us through the hard times.
